Uzbek brides have always found magnificent ways to adorn themselves — even in times when their resources were scarce. Crowns of fabric and straw embroidered with sequins, feathers, and beads, and necklaces fashioned from painted apricot pits, pistachio shells, and berries show how beauty could be created from whatever was at hand, carrying with it a quiet assertion of capability and resilience. In this workshop, led by artist Taus Makhacheva together with some of Uzbekistan’s most exciting jewellery designers participants will work with simple, everyday elements to create a piece of jewellery in which one can feel capable of anything: an object that embodies the freedom to act, to imagine, and to shape one’s own path.
